The old Stupid Party GOP specialized in jumping in to save Democrats from themselves,

thinking that somehow that was going to earn them positive press or some sort of political consensus in their favor. Such thinking clearly never worked. Democrats create hellscapes wherever they’re in charge, and then they seek to blame Republicans for their malign incompetence and outright malfeasance. They’re owed nothing but contempt in return.
