The October 7 Hamas Sabbath Massacre in Israel held many lessons for the world, and especially for Americans.
The most obvious one is something we’ve been telling CHQ readers for a long time: Iran’s version of Islam has declared total war on Western Civilization, and no outrage is beyond them in their quest to impose their totalitarian ideology masquerading as a religion on the rest of the world.
That’s a big picture lesson that many still haven’t absorbed, and many don’t want to believe no matter how strong the evidence.
On a more practical level there’s a very simple lesson that American gun owners and self-defense instructors have been repeating for years often to ridicule from anti-Second Amendment Democrats: When it is a matter of seconds, and help is minutes away, you are your only defense.
Once the smoke cleared and the horrific results of Hamas’s Sabbath Massacre were revealed, the one thing that most often separated the living from the dead, the free from the hostage, the safe from the raped, tortured and killed, was a personal firearm.
Inbar Lieberman, a 25-year-old Israeli woman, heard explosions early Saturday, when the terrorists launched their savage attack, and recognized something different was going on.
Lieberman rushed to open her kibbutz’s armory, distributed guns to the 12-member security team and coordinated their decisive response amid the unfolding attack, reported the New York Post.
She placed her squad of kibbutzniks in strategic positions across the settlement and set up ambushes that caught the gunmen off guard and turned the tables on them during their mission to inflict mass casualties.
Lieberman killed five terrorists by herself, while the others gunned down 20 more over four hours as they turned Nir Am into an impenetrable fortress — while nearby kibbutzim suffered heavy losses, Walla News reported.
Ilit Paz, cultural coordinator at Kibbutz Nir Am, told the news outlet Israel Hayom: Inbar made a decision not to wait and be jumped operationally. In fact, the fact that they did it early prevented dozens of casualties,” she added.
But none of that would have mattered if Inbar and her fellow kibbutzniks hadn’t been armed. (For a recitation of the facts of the Israeli casualties in the October 7 terrorist attack click here.)
Remarkably, our own government – or at least the Leftist cabal that is currently administering it – seems intent on ignoring that most obvious and practical lesson of the October 7 Sabbath Massacre and has intensified its efforts to deprive us of the God-given right to keep and bear arms guaranteed by the Second Amendment.
As the editors of Guns & Ammo magazine observed in a recent column, “…in the wake of the Hamas invasion of Israel, we learned of extraordinary examples of heroism, where armed Israelis took on their attackers and defended their homeland. The Israeli government responded by ordering thousands of firearms with which to arm its residents, recognizing that they are the nation’s first line of defense. One might think that our own leaders would see those examples of individual valor and conclude that attempting to disarm our population in the wake of a mass-migration of suspected terrorists might be a bad idea. Unfortunately, the contrary is true. Just recently, President Biden repeated his familiar sound bite: A call for a ban on America’s most popular firearms.”

According to a Guns & Ammo analysis of the Customs and Border Patrol’s data, a record number of individuals on the FBI’s Terror Screening Dataset, better known as the “terror watch list,” have been encountered “between ports of entry” at both the southern and northern borders of the United States. As of mid-October, 169 individuals on the terror watch list were encountered by U.S. officials as they attempted to enter the nation illegally. Additionally, there were 564 encounters with suspected terrorists at U.S. ports of entry. These figures only represent the individuals who were identified, not the unknown number that crossed successfully through our borders.
There has been a more than 20,000-percent increase in land encounters with illegal aliens since President Biden took his oath of office according to Guns & Ammo. Among that staggering figure are thousands of “special interest aliens” originating from Middle Eastern nations. CBP data shows that, over the past two years, agents encountered 6,386 nationals from Afghanistan, 3,153 from Egypt, 1,613 from Pakistan, 659 from Iran, 538 from Syria and 123 from Iraq. Again, these are the individuals that we know about, noted the editors of Guns & Ammo.
How many of these illegal aliens wish harm to America or you and your family? Judging by the terrorist attacks carried out by legally admitted aliens from Muslim countries we’d have to say many of them. As the editors of Guns & Ammo concluded, “If we are to draw any lessons from the recent events in Israel, it is that terrorist threats are real and that we, the people, are the ones who need to be prepared to act if called upon.”
